1.29.26 – Our Statement Condemning the ICE Murder of Alex Pretti

Alex Pretti died a hero.

Once again, people are being asked to accept lies propagated by the Trump Administration that do not match what we can see with our own eyes. We reject the idea that lethal force is ever an acceptable response to nonviolent protest, presence, or community resistance. Congress must take immediate and decisive action in this moment.

Our Statement

The students, families, and members of LEAD Filipino condemn the tragic and brutal murder of Alex Pretti, an ICU Nurse who saved veterans’ lives at the Minneapolis VA.

For the second time in two weeks, ICE agents have killed another person. Alex Pretti was murdered less than two miles from where Renee Good was killed. He was shot multiple times while attempting to help a woman who had been pepper-sprayed by ICE agents.

Any individual with integrity cannot deny that Alex Pretti’s death was a brutal execution at the hands of ICE. The use of force that took his life isn’t an isolated incident, but instead is a growing and alarming pattern of violence levied by immigration enforcement that treats human beings as threats–instead of neighbors.

Once again, the people are being asked to accept lies propagated by the Trump Administration that do not match what we can see with our own eyes.

We reject the idea that lethal force is ever an acceptable response to nonviolent presence, protest, or community resistance. We reject the criminalization of people who show up to bear witness and protect our communities.

Congress cannot abdicate its responsibility to take immediate and decisive action in this moment. Lawmakers cannot–in good conscience–continue to fund and expand an agency that repeatedly uses violence against civilians and nonviolent protestors, with devastating consequences. We must stop funding violence and start investing in policies that protect human life.
