Future Filipino: Boards & Commissions Training
Applications are now closed. Please contact us at info@leadfilipino.org for any questions.

ABOUT
Future Filipino strengthens democracy by combining civic education with an understanding of Filipino American contributions to civil and human rights, both past and present. Through guest speakers, workshops, and peer-to-peer learning, we build power one person at a time, across the communities we serve.
Our Purpose
Since 2015, we have supported Filipino Americans in strengthening their public service and civic leadership within their communities. Through board and commission appointments, legislative and campaign staff roles, and nonprofit management opportunities, we advance our mission by offering culturally responsive programs and practical pathways for grassroots leaders committed to serving their communities.
Overview
Boards and commissions are critical pathways for residents to influence local policies and budgets that impact our daily lives. Despite being one of the largest Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the country, Filipino Americans remain underrepresented in these vital civic spaces. Future Filipino aims to change that.
If you’re interested in serving on a board or commission but aren’t sure where to start, Future Filipino is here to help. Our new 5-session civic leadership accelerator program is designed to identify and prepare Filipina/x/o Americans for leadership roles in local government.

Accelerator Program Design
Future Filipino is designed to prepare Filipino Americans for appointment to a board or commission within 6-9 months (or sooner) after completing the program. Our team offers comprehensive support throughout the application and nomination process, as well as assistance in building key relationships to ensure each candidate is fully prepared for service.
Participants attend a virtual national orientation, followed by a weekend convening with full-day programming in their city/community, and 2 virtual sessions with their local cohort led by our team. Participants must be available to attend all sessions.
Program Goals
- Participants will know the historic contributions of Filipinas/xs/os in civil rights and social justice issues;
- Participants will know the aspects of civic and public leadership;
