1.12.25 – Our Statement on the Death of Renee Nicole Good
We have taken the past several days to process the devastating news of the killing of Renee Nicole Good at the hands of ICE agents. Her family, friends, and the broader Minneapolis community remain in our hearts.
No one should be harmed for exercising their constitutional right to protest. Deadly force against unarmed people is never justified. We condemn the continued violation of due process and lack of accountability sanctioned by this Administration.
Shame on Trump, Vance, and Noem for their disgraceful response and mischaracterization to this atrocity.
This tragedy is part of a larger pattern of violence by ICE. These actions continue to spread fear and harm among immigrant communities and communities of color. Violence against immigrants, protesters, and witnesses is never acceptable.
As an organization that provides know your rights training with youth and families, an organization with a longstanding history of advocating for public safety and accountability, and an organization that amplifies Filipino and AAPI stories, experiences, and voices, we are saddened and angered by these realities.
LEAD Filipino’s mission is to build the civic and cultural power of Filipino and AAPI communities, guided by justice, dignity, and peace. Advocating for immigrant justice is part of racial justice, economic empowerment, and community advancement. Every Filipino in the American diaspora has an immigrant story to be told and honored. Idling on the sidelines amidst our federal government’s response to immigration will never be an option for us.
We stand with immigrant communities and call for accountability, compassion, and justice.
