ABOUT
BACKGROUND
Piqued by community requests and inspired within our membership, LEAD Filipino laid the groundwork in late 2016 to fashion what would become our Annual Fly Pinays.
Since 2017, our Fly Pinays Leadership Summit has drawn audiences of nearly 200 women, girls, professionals, educators, creatives, and scholars to coalesce on shared values related to Fil Am identity, culture, sisterhood, and mentorship.
Working with student and adult populations across the Northern California region, our Annual Fly Pinays program coordinates year-round to curate, cultivate, and grow community spaces that respond to and reflect Pinay experiences.
Years of our Fly Pinays work represent the faith that our community holds in the value and importance of creating pipelines for female success. We can’t wait to continue building and developing this exciting work with all of you!

OUR PAST SUMMITS
Padayon, Abante, Agtuloy (To Advance): Taking Each Step With Strength
Behind the Theme:
Padayon, Adante, and Agtuloy are powerful Bisaya, Tagalog, and Ilocano words with similar meanings, to “keep moving forward”, reminding us that no matter the setbacks, we have the courage to continue. This theme calls us to persevere, to find hope in the struggle, and to stay committed to the fight for equity, justice, and inclusion. It’s a reminder that change is a journey, not a destination—and with each step forward, we are building a stronger, more united future. “Padayon, Adante, and Agutloy” isn’t just about pushing through. It’s about moving with purpose and pride.

If I Got Me, You Got You, then We Got Us
Behind the theme:
Celebrating the theme of “We Got Us,” we dove into intergenerational dialogue, intersectionality, and wellness for Filipinas/xs/os. In our 8th Annual Summit, we aim to teach attendees how to prioritize self-care and community support with other Fly Pinays and community members as we explore the eight aspects of wellness: emotional, spiritual, physical, intellectual, environmental, financial, occupational, and social.

Rooted, Rising, & Resilient
Behind the theme:
Celebrating the theme of “Rooted, Rising, & Resilient,” we gather as a community to honor the people, history, and contributions that have shaped us, staying rooted in our shared culture and values. Together, we empower ourselves and each other to rise in the present, pursuing growth and creativity with courage and kapwa. This collective strength will embolden us to remain resilient, while we navigate the future’s uncertainties so we can continue to flourish together.

The ‘P’ is for…
Behind the theme:
Celebrating the theme “The P is for…”, we empower our attendees to explore their intersectional identities. This theme invites folks to personally interpret what the “P” means to them, capturing meanings like “Pinay,” “Project Management,” “Public Health,” and whatever resonates most with each individual. Through this open-ended approach, we seek to honor the unique journeys and experiences that shape the people we are today. We used this theme to foster a deeper understanding of ourselves and each other, recognizing the strength found in our diverse perspectives.

Doing the Heart Work

Behind the theme:
Celebrating the theme of ‘Doing the Heart Work,’ we encourage our attendees to prioritize activities and work that re-energize and motivate us, rather than draining us. We have invited speakers who have set up their small businesses, transitioned into more fulfilling careers, or have reconnected spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically with themselves, their culture, and the environment to share their wisdom.
Puso-to-Puso Talks
Behind the theme:
During the pandemic, our committee found that topics regarding hustle culture, pursuing our hobbies and passions, and reconnecting with ourselves and loved ones became central issues within our community. This need led to our mini-event series via Zoom, providing ‘Puso-to-Puso,’ also known as ‘Heart-to-Heart,’ talks to create a space for our Fly Pinays and community to learn and grow.
Breaking Expectations & Bossing Up

Behind the theme:
Celebrating the theme of ‘Breaking Expectations & Bossing Up,’ we call on our community to challenge limitations and take control of their lives and circumstances. Many folks are familiar with the terms ‘bamboo ceiling’ or ‘glass ceiling’ to highlight the barriers women and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander people face regarding wage and opportunity gaps. During our 3rd Annual Summit, we are bringing speakers, workshops, and panelists to share best practices and tips on how to ‘boss up.
Breaking Through, By Being You
Behind the theme:
Celebrating the theme of ‘Breaking Through, By Being You,’ we send a powerful message to our attendees: achieving success and overcoming obstacles can be done by embracing one’s authentic self. We break through in our respective industries, sectors, and environments by leveraging our unique strengths, talents, perspectives, and values as Filipina/x/o Americans.
