9.12.23 – Salamat at Paalam & Lola Scholarship Celebration

Celebrating our 2023 Awareness in Action Cohort & 2022 Lola Scholarship Recipients

We had a blast celebrating both the 2022 Lola Scholarship Fund recipients and the completion of our 8th Annual Awareness in Action Program also known as our Filipino Studies & Civic Engagement Course.

We presented our cohort and scholarship recipients with certificates from Councilmember Davin Cohen’s Office and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors Cindy Chavez & Otto Lee Tin celebration of everyone’s pursuit for knowledge and/or cultural awareness.

Like any Filipino party, we brought out food, desserts, and great music! Lots of kwentohan and new connections built from just one day together.

Congratulations again to our 2023 Cohort and 2022 Scholarship Recipients!

Reflections from Our Team

“I’m grateful for all the stories, vulnerability and joy I was able to experience with AAP’s 2023 cohort. From learning about pre-colonial Philippines to Filipinas/xs/os in the diaspora, touring San José’s Pinoytown, and confronting our own healing…I watched all the ways community holds it down for one another during our summer together.”

Celeste Francisco

2023 Awareness in Action Instructor

“AAP is honestly what I look forward to every summer. It’s such a beautiful and safe space for us to learn from each other about our shared struggles and experiences. In the program every summer, I look forward to all the conversations shared. I can’t wait for the following years to come.”

“I enjoyed this year’s diversity and the stories that our cohort shared. Being able to meet the cohort in person at the Salamat at Paalam Celebration was one of my favorite moments!”

Jerred Cayabyab

“It’s the second year running the Lola Scholarship. And I’m proud to see its impact through the beautiful stories of Filipino American students. I know that our ancestors would be proud of how our community shows up for each other”
