Learn about how we’re building power for Filipina/x/o Americans in California
We are so happy to announce that we are featured in the Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s newest blog post! With their recent grant sponsorship, our organization is excited to continue growing our programs and initiatives that will allow us to increase the representation of our Filipina/x/o Americans in civic participation, grassroots leadership, culturally responsive education, and community action!

Check out some highlights from the blog below:
“This is one of the first multiyear grants from our Community Action Grants program. LEAD Filipino is deeply committed to systemic change through leadership development and community-organizing in the Filipino community, and this grant will help support them in this work.”
– Jack Mahoney, Director of Movement- and Power-Building for SVCF

“It doesn’t work to just go to someone and say, ‘Vote,’” Cortez said. “If you’re not connecting the civics to something personal and providing a pathway to translate that knowledge, they’re like, ‘Why?’ We use Filipino Studies and Ethnic Studies as positive vehicles to bring them into civics.”
– Angelica Cortez, Executive Director & Founder of LEAD Filipino
