7.4.25 – One Big Beautiful Bill: A Version of America we Reject
On this Independence Day, the passage of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2025 [One Big Beautiful Bill] casts a long shadow that undermines life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and instead, forces a version of America that we fundamentally reject.
From ICE raids and detentions spiking over 600% to ending LGBTQ+ youth suicide support and cutting life-saving healthcare access, TCJA spreads a nefarious agenda of misinformation and lies while instilling fear, stress, and anxiety among working families, the most ill and most vulnerable. 72 million Americans will lose care. Beyond the data are people–our lolos and lolas, titas and titos, and neighbors.
We reject an America that centers the interests of corporate shareholders and billionaires. We reject an America that uses the most powerful office in our union to manipulate markets to the benefit of a few but detriment to many.
Designed to primarily benefit high-income earners and corporations, this bill poses significant tax reductions, loosens necessary regulations, and imposes unprecedented funding cuts to vital social services like Medicaid, SNAP, nursing homes, and hospital systems.
We believe in [and fight for] an America that remembers its roots as a country of and built by immigrants. We fight for an America that upholds democratic values of collaboration and collective movement. That despite race, ethnicity, creed, identity, ability, age, and who we love, we protect the most vulnerable, care for the sick, help working families, and provide economic opportunities and security for all our neighbors.
TCJA is un-American and does not reflect the guiding values, beliefs or ideals of LEAD Filipino. We will be resilient and we will continue to fight.
