Filipino American History Month (FAHM) has been celebrated nationwide since 1992. Celebrating 30 years of FAHM celebrations, 40 years of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) and 50 years of Filipino American Studies in the United States, there was much to observe, honor and exalt.
On Friday, October 14 the organizers of Filipino Americans Coming Together (FACTsj) in partnership with San Jose Councilmember Magdalena Carrasco hosted the Annual Filipino Flag Raising & Lighting Ceremony in honor of Filipino American History Month (FAHM) at San Jose City Hall.
The Ceremony gathered over 150 community members in a celebration of Filipino American History, comprised of cultural dances and performances, guest speakers and other visual representations to observe the legacies of the Delano Manongs, World War II Veteranos and the many lives of Filipinos that have shaped American history through invention, innovation and contributions. Among the special guests included Deputy Consul General Raquel Solano and Consul Rowena Pangilinan-Daquipil.
The Flag Raising & Lighting Ceremony was a radiant community representation of FilAm talents and voices from the local San Jose community.
