Today marks a truly momentous and historic occasion for all Americans.
The students, families, and members of LEAD Filipino stand together in congratulating Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as she is confirmed to the Supreme Court. Justice Jackson will be the first African American woman to serve as a justice on the highest court more than 200 years after the founding of the United States. May we take in the gravity of this moment but also look at how America’s history – one of segregation, one of disenfranchisement, and one of state sanctioned racial discrimination has delayed justice and oppressed African Americans and communities of color for generations. We exclaim our joy and happiness in the face of progress but also remind ourselves of the work we need to continue to do. We cannot wait to see Justice Jackson’s leadership and impact on the #SCOTUS.
