7.2.25 – Kalusugan [Health] Advocacy Program Recap

We launched our Kalusugan [Health] Advocacy program with our inaugural cohort!

Our folks are super passionate about health equity and here’s what we covered so far!

  • Week 1 – Syllabus Overview, Social Determinants Of Health and What is a Community Health Worker?
  • Week 2 – Motivational Interviewing, HIPAA and Know Your Rights with one of our long time organizers, Karen Manalac
  • Week 3 – Community-Based Care and Health Plans with Colby Takeda, one of our API CHW cohort partners
  • Week 4 – Organizing and Outreach with LEAD Filipino’s Sr. Program Manager and Designer, Camille Valerio

We’re excited to conduct outreach in our community and wrap up with our Mental Health First Aid Training.

One of our outreach initiatives for the cohort is encouraging folks to complete the 2025 AANHPI Health Needs Assessment Survey! The last one was completed in 2017, so we are definitely overdue to update data points about the needs, attitudes, and behaviors of the AANHPI community in Santa Clara County.

If you are over 18 years of age and live in Santa Clara County, please take the survey!
