2020 Census

Join us as we do things differently.

This fall, we’ll be hosting a series of “Community Conversations” with Fil Am nonprofits, grassroots groups, student organizations, and small business leaders on the importance of the Census to the Fil Am community, beginning in October 2019.

The United States’s decennial Census – or 2020 Census – begins on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020. For many of our members and student leaders, the 2020 Census will be their first interaction, as young adults, with the decennial count.

The 2020 Census is posing many “firsts” for our community and frankly, the country.

To begin with, the 2020 Census will be paperless. From trainings our organizers have attended and our group’s ongoing involvement in community coalitions and conversations with the County of Santa Clara, here’s what we know so far:

  • The questionnaire will take ~15 minutes to complete.
  • You may complete the questionnaire via phone or online.
  • Complete the questionnaire based on where you currently reside.

Complete Filipino Census Count Committee: A Regional Effort

Our work to begin galvanizing our community through education, resources, and base-building begun over a year ago. Last April, our organization coordinated volunteers to assist with the City of San Jose’s Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) Project, which aimed to ensure that all addresses were updated for the purposes of everyone receiving the Census Questionnaire.

This year, we’re continuing our work in concert with other leading Fil Am service providers in the region. Our organization is pleased to be working in concert with the San Francisco Veterans’s Equity Center, Bayanihan Equity Center, Filipino American Development Foundation, and Filipino Advocates for Justice on devising strategies and materials to ensure that the Filipino/a community in the 9-County Bay Area is completely counted in the 2020 Census under the rubric of a Filipino Complete Census 2020 Count Committee.

The Filipino Complete Census 2020 Count Committee’s work is just beginning — and we would love to engage YOU and/or your organization.
