Awareness in Action 2017: 2nd Cohort

Every June to August, LEAD Filipino coordinates, organizes and provides Awareness in Action, a free eight-week program, open and accessible to all community members that have an interest and desire to learn more about Filipino/a American history, society and politics, and in turn, using their knowledge to incite more Filipinos/as into civic, public and political leadership.

In the summer of 2017, we hosted our 2nd Cohort for Awareness in Action. With a class of 15 participants, our 2017 group size nearly tripled from 2016 (5 students). We had students from SJSU, SCU, De Anza, CSUEB, and Ohlone involved in our program.

From June to August, we met every Monday evening from 6pm-8pm at Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) in San Jose and engaged our group in weekly workshops, featured guest speakers, and hosted 3 weekend Exposure Tours.

We celebrated everyone’s completion at our Summer Reception, complete with completion certificates, scholarship awards, and special words from El Cerrito Mayor Gabriel Quinto.
